KS2 children are making easy chicken fajitas in their cooking lessons this half term (Jan-Feb).
The children will learn where the food they are cooking has come from, how to safely handle raw meat and to always wash their hands properly after handling the meat. Pupils who do not eat meat will substitute the chicken with Quorn fillets. The children will be improving their knife skills, slicing and preparing the vegetables and chicken.

This half term, KS2 children are making the traditional Greek dish spanakopita. This consists of spinach and feta cheese, seasoned and wrapped in filo pastry then baked until crispy.
Dicing vegetables and using frying pans and ovens safely are skills that will be used and practised.

For the first half term of 2019-20, children in KS2 will be making a delicious leek and potato soup.
Children will learn important knife skills such as slicing, peeling and dicing and will also learn about where the food they are cooking has come from.
Samples of the soup will be added to our food stalls on a Tuesday and Wednesday for parents to buy and try.

This half term, KS2 children will be making a delicious shepherd’s pie.
Skills the children will use include: chopping, dicing, peeling, mashing and sautéing. Children will learn the difference between boiling and simmering, how to handle and store meat, ensuring no cross contamination with other foods, and which coloured chopping board to use with different foods (red/meat, blue/fish, white/veg).
Look out for samples on the Food for Fuel stall each week on a Tuesday and Wednesday outside the junior building.

Children in years 3 and 4 can look forward to making Aloo Gobi in January and February. Aloo Gobi is a delicious vegetarian dish made with potato, cauliflower, tomato and spices. Children will learning about different spices and experiment with them.

Children in year 5 & 6 will be making vegetable samosas in January and February. Skills being used for this include sauteing, peeling and dicing.
